One of the UK’s first black belts, Jude Samuel, showcases a sweep from lapel guard — the ‘Legacy Sweep’. Jude received his black belt under Mauricio Gomes, who was one of the legendary Rolls Gracie’s students.
Lapel Guard Sweep
Jude Samuel, demonstrates a lapel guard sweep called — the ‘Legacy Sweep’. It is a variation with the lapel grip. The sweep is very simple and direct. It doesn’t take much to execute it effectively. Some key factors to keep in mind are:
- The strong lapel grip in conjunction with the proper elbow positioning.
- The second grip to the leg by the opposite are creating a two on one grip on your opponent’s leg.
- Spreading your opponent’s stance to off balance him.
- Swinging the leg to create the momentum for the sweep
